There’s a wonderful little place I like to go to get some good, American-sized coffee, called “EAT.” There’s only been one other “EAT” restaurant in my life and, while the one back home had rusty-tasting water, I must say that both are equally meaningful :) Anyways, the manager is a great lady named Jackie—she always greets me with, “Hello, lovely!” Or, “Sweetness! What can we get you today?” and today when I asked her how she was doing, she said, “Really good. I try to go to bed smiling and wake up smiling, and I did today, and I plan on the same tomorrow.” And then she said, “Your coffee’s on me!”
best coffee ever!
Today I saw this sign outside of a newsstand: “CLOONEY AND DAMON USE CITY GYM—PHOTOS!” It’s a gym right down the road! I know where this thing is! Why was I not informed about this?! NOT COOL! Also, if you look at the link below, at the first picture that comes up of Matt Damon and a guy who works at the gym, that’s Mustafa, the awesome gym trainer who came in to Pembroke in January to show us international kids how not to kill ourselves using the gym equipment. Mustafa+Matt? Worlds are colliding and I can’t believe I missed this historical moment.
And oh wait! The article says Matt and George ate at Loch Fyne on Trumpington Street on Sunday night? I could have been there in about two seconds to keep them company!

I have been waiting for Gatsby for months!!
The glitter! BLING! headdresses! feathers! boas! perfect bobs n’ fringes, as the Brits call bangs. (And a note on the headpieces: I’ll tell you who’s got those figured out in terms of bringing perfect boho chic lifted straight from Daisy Buchanan down from the stratosphere and makin’ it accessible: my mom: http://www.etsy.com/shop/BestDayBridal). The jazzy Jay to the Z soundtrack. The whole thing. As I was waiting for the perfect day to take myself to the movies, I read this review:
http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/videos/baz-luhrmanns-great-gatsby-is-artificial-and-boring-20130509
and, now having seen the movie (since today was the perfect day) I can say with certainty: Peter Travers has lost his mind! He’s got his knickers in a twist about nothing deep or surprising happening and all the actors besides Leo being vacuous and boring—well, I have news for you: the people of West and East Egg don’t “do” anything “deep” and they ARE vacuous and boring! That’s what makes the story so interesting, because Gatsby has dreams and visions! He shakes up the two Eggs! It’s almost like Peter was disappointed because the movie told the story that F. Scott wanted to tell, not some “new” story. We all know the ending, and nobody’s expecting a twist! We just want an exciting new take on the old, and seriously folks, this one is good.
**Also, I thought that Carey Mulligan is such a beautiful boss as Daisy. We don’t have to like Daisy to agree that this girl rocked that part. I don’t really know why Peter’s complaining about the acting. End of note!
Part of Peter’s problem was that he saw the 3D version, which probably was a little overwhelming…I saw the 2D version and if you’re wondering whether you’ll lose anything or miss out on the glamor and glitter, you won’t! The 2D party scenes were not wanting for anything. It’s all SO over the top, just delightful, lots to see and everything done to the max. Dancing, drinks, confetti, champagne, sparkle, sparkle, sparkle. The shots of the city all lit up at night really are something, too.
Get your glitter on! Get to Gatsby! And then let us collectively call for Peter Travers resignation so that he can maintain a shred, a MODICUM, of his dignity :) Dance party on. Charleston style.
you’re sitting outside eating an ice cream sundae—an amazing ice cream sundae—and you see someone wearing a legitimate three cornered hat, just out for an evening stroll. The British are coming! :D So many LOLs.
Less than a month left…so I’m keeping my eyes peeled.
